Military Personnel Arrested for the Murder of Avag Zakaryan: Details Revealed
A military personnel has been arrested in connection with the murder of Avag Zakaryan, who is also a soldier. This information was reported by the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia.
During the preliminary investigation conducted by the 6th garrison investigative department of the military investigative main directorate, several significant circumstances surrounding the death of soldier Avag Zakaryan on February 24, 2024, have been clarified.
In particular, based on the report received from the Berd division of the RA Ministry of Defense's military police, factual data has been obtained during the urgent procedural and evidentiary actions initiated within the framework of the criminal proceedings. It was established that around 17:55, a dispute arose in the trench at a combat position located on the northeastern border of Armenia between soldier S.P., who was on combat duty, and soldier A. Zakaryan over personal matters. During this altercation, S.P. loaded the grenade launcher attached to him and fired a single shot at A. Zakaryan, inflicting a gunshot wound on him.
On the way to the military hospital due to the gunshot injury, A. Zakaryan died between approximately 18:05 and 18:10.
S.P. has been charged under the 1st part of Article 155 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. A motion has been submitted to the court to select detention as a preventive measure against him, which has been granted. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
