Defendant Released in Case of Brutal Beating Death of Lieutenant Colonel in Yeghvard
The only convicted individual in the case of Lieutenant Colonel Ara Mkrtchyan, who died from a brutal beating in the city of Yeghvard, Vayots Dzor Province, has been released conditionally ahead of schedule. This was reported by Sputnik Armenia, citing the lieutenant colonel's brother, Karen Mkrtchyan.
Ara Mkrtchyan was brutally beaten on September 18, 2019, in the yard of a building on Arsenyan Street in Yeghvard. The lieutenant colonel, who had been in a coma since 2019, passed away in July 2023.
According to Karen Mkrtchyan, the convict, Harutyun Grigoryan, who was the assistant to the former governor Tirdat Sargsyan, himself applied for conditional early release to the relevant commission. The Yeghvard court held a session two days ago and announced its decision today, granting Grigoryan's request and releasing him.
“The basis for releasing Grigoryan was that he behaved well in the correctional institution,” said the lieutenant colonel’s brother. For further details, refer to the original source.
