Hamas Funded by Israeli Government, Says Borrell
The Israeli government has financially supported the Palestinian militant group Hamas in an effort to counter the Palestinian national administration, according to Josep Borrell, the European Union's High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, as reported by Reuters.
"Hamas has been funded by the Israeli government, attempting to weaken the Palestinian administration that leads the Palestinian liberation movement," Borrell stated.
According to the agency, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has denied such accusations.
