New Temperature Record: 2023 Benchmark Surpassed
The Director of the Hydro-Meteorological and Monitoring Center, Levon Azizyan, has reported a new temperature record set in the Northern Hemisphere.
"On August 1, the average daily temperature in the Northern Hemisphere reached +22.742 °C, becoming the highest reading in the entire ERA5 reanalysis data series since 1940. The previous record was set on August 1, 2023, when the average temperature in the Northern Hemisphere was +22.723 °C. Thus, the previous maximum has been surpassed by 0.019 °C. Although this numerical difference may seem small, it pertains not to a single city or country, but to the average temperature of the entire Northern Hemisphere; therefore, even a hundredth of a degree change is significant for such a vast area," he noted.
