US and EU Must Jointly Close Funding Sources for Russia's War, Says von der Leyen

The President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, has welcomed the adoption of a bill by the US Senate regarding new sanctions against Russia. On the X social media platform, she stated, “Every source of revenue fueling Kremlin aggression must be targeted from all sides.”

She called on the United States and the European Union to work together to block the funding avenues for Russia's military capabilities, which include the export of energy resources, the revenues earned by Russian oligarchs, and the activities of a “shadow fleet.”

According to the European Commission President, the goal of coordinated sanctions is to “deprive Russia of the means to continue the war,” which she believes “it cannot win.” Von der Leyen also emphasized that by acting together, Europe and the US can achieve greater results and urged both sides to continue harmonizing their sanctions policies.
