The ethnic cleansing of Armenians in Baku marked the peak of the Azerbaijani SSR's policy of forcibly displacing the Armenian population. This is stated in a statement issued by the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

“34 years ago around this time, the massacres of Armenians in Baku became the apex of the Azerbaijani SSR's policy of forced displacement and ethnic cleansing of the Armenian population. Hundreds of people were killed, maimed, and went missing, while half a million became refugees,” the statement reads.

The Armenian MFA paid tribute to the memory of the innocent victims and emphasized the necessity of preventing such policies.
