US and 11 Other Countries Warn Houthis: Consequences Will Follow If Attacks on Ships in the Red Sea Continue

The Houthi rebels of Yemen's Ansar Allah movement will face consequences if they continue their attacks on commercial vessels in the Red Sea. This was stated in a joint announcement by the White House along with Australia, Bahrain, Belgium, the United Kingdom, Germany, Denmark, Italy, Canada, the Netherlands, New Zealand, the United States, and Japan.

The document notes that the authorities of these countries "warn the Houthis against further attacks," which "illegally, unacceptably, and seriously destabilize" the situation. The statement emphasizes that "attacks on vessels, including commercial ones, using drones, small boats, and missiles, including the first use of anti-ship ballistic missiles against such vessels, pose a direct threat to the freedom of navigation." Representatives of the countries "call for the immediate cessation of these illegal attacks and the release of detained vessels and their crews."

“The Houthis will face consequences if they continue to threaten lives, the global economy, and the free trade along vital waterways in the region. We remain committed to the rules-based international order and will hold accountable those who engage in harmful activities,” the message stated. The announcement also mentioned that the Houthi attacks are "a serious international issue that requires collaborative action."
