ECHR Issues Ruling Against Azerbaijan Over the Killing of Armenian Soldiers

The European Court of Human Rights has issued a ruling in the case of "Narayans and Others v. Azerbaijan." This information has been reported on the ECHR website.

The Court found that Article 2 of the Convention (right to life) was violated in relation to the deaths of servicemen Edgar Narayan and Erik Abovyan, as well as the absence of any investigation into the circumstances surrounding their deaths.

The ECHR noted that there was no necessity to examine the application concerning Article 13 of the Convention (right to effective remedy) or Article 14 (prohibition of discrimination).

Furthermore, the Court ruled that Azerbaijan is obligated to pay each applicant €16,000, in accordance with Article 44, paragraph 2 of the Convention, within three months from the date the judgment becomes final, plus any tax that may be applicable for non-pecuniary damage, and €2,780 for each application, to be jointly paid to the respective applicants, along with any tax that may be collected from them relating to expenses.

The applicants are relatives of servicemen from the Armed Forces of the Republic of Armenia.

The case pertains to the killing of Armenian servicemen by Azerbaijani soldier Chingiz Gurbanoğlu.
