20 Days After Incident at Yerevan City Hall: Where Are the Accused?

The newspaper "Zhoghovurd" reports that it has been 20 days since the controversial incident at the Yerevan City Hall, yet no charges have been brought against anyone. This means that neither the council members who incited the unpleasantness nor those who stoked tensions, nor the district heads who organized brawls in the corridors, have been held accountable.

The elected officials of Yerevan openly insulted each other during a live broadcast on a public platform, but there has been no movement in this case.

"Zhoghovurd" has mentioned that the Investigative Committee is reviewing the videos published by the media concerning the incident at the Yerevan City Hall and has invited Sona Agekyan, a member of the Yerevan Council from the "Mother Armenia" faction, for questioning twice, and that is where it ends. Judging by the current situation, this incident is likely to meet the same fate as a previous brawl recorded among deputies in the National Assembly, which was closed by the Anti-Corruption Committee.

It is noteworthy that the Police of the Republic of Armenia reported that on November 21, 2023, during a regular session of the Yerevan City Council, mutual punches were exchanged amid disagreements between several council members, during which disrespectful remarks were made towards the public, thereby violating the normal operations of the City Hall.

A criminal proceeding was initiated by the Third Investigative Division of the Yerevan Investigative Committee under Article 297, Part 2, Clause 1 of the RA Criminal Code (hooliganism committed by a group of individuals) and Article 195, Part 2, Clause 5 (causing harm or other violent actions by a group of persons).
