Zahharova's Statement on the Spitak Earthquake
Russia will always remember the earthquake that struck Armenia on December 7, 1988, and we perceive this tragedy of the Armenian people as our own. This was stated by the official representative of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova.
“One of the lessons from Spitak is the inviolability of the age-old friendship between the Russian and Armenian peoples, tested by various misfortunes, regardless of how the political situation develops. Our brotherly unity will overcome any difficulties, as it has been subjected to the test of time,” she said.
Recall that the Spitak earthquake occurred in the northwestern part of Armenia on December 7, 1988, at 11:41 AM local time.
