"We can go different ways with the EU if necessary," Erdogan
The European Union aims to sever ties with Turkey, stated Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
"If the EU takes appropriate steps, we will evaluate those events and afterwards we can go different ways with the EU if necessary," said the Turkish leader at a press conference in Istanbul before departing for New York.
Earlier, the European Parliament released a report stating that Ankara and Brussels should find alternative pathways for cooperation that do not involve Turkey's accession to the EU, as that is currently unfeasible. MEPs noted that the process of Turkey's accession to the EU would not be restarted unless the Turkish government changes its current course. The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the report, describing it as a "collection of baseless accusations and prejudices."
