Pentagon Declares Increase in Security Threats in Space
The United States is observing an increase in security threats in the space domain. This was stated by General Chance Saltzman, the head of space operations for the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff.
According to him, the establishment of Space Forces as a separate branch of the U.S. Armed Forces is in line with the current conditions, which he referred to as great power competition.
Saltzman believes that for the most effective operation of the space forces, continuous improvement is necessary in both structure and technology and readiness.
The U.S. Space Forces were formed as a separate branch of the American military system in 2019. Command documents indicate that, if necessary, the U.S. space forces can conduct offensive operations and strike targets both on the ground and in cyberspace.
