US Seized Assets of Sanctioned Russian Oligarchs to Support Ukrainian Veterans, Blinken Says
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken has announced that assets seized from Russian businessmen under sanctions will be utilized to support Ukrainian veterans, according to TASS.
“For the first time, we are sending to Ukraine assets seized from Russian oligarchs under sanctions that will be used to assist Ukrainian veterans,” he stated.
According to a statement from the State Department, this amounts to $5.4 million.
Earlier, Blinken had announced that Washington would provide Kyiv with more than $1 billion in additional aid.
It is noted that since the end of February 2022, Washington has provided $43.2 billion in military assistance to Kyiv, with humanitarian aid totaling $2.9 billion, and another $20.5 billion sent as budget support through World Bank mechanisms.
