The Verkhovna Rada Appoints Rustem Umerov as Ukraine's New Defense Minister
Rustem Umerov has been appointed as Ukraine's new Minister of Defense. The parliament voted in favor of his appointment with 338 votes.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the changes in the Ministry of Defense. Rustem Umerov is set to replace Oleksiy Reznikov.
“I have decided to change the Minister of Defense of Ukraine. Oleksiy Reznikov has been through more than 550 days of a large-scale war. I believe the ministry needs new approaches and different forms of cooperation with both the military and society in general. Now the ministry should be headed by Rustem Umerov. I expect that the parliament will support this candidate,” Zelensky stated.
It is noteworthy that Oleksiy Reznikov previously held this position.
