Azerbaijan Has Territorial Ambitions Towards Armenia, Says Mirzoyan
Ararat Mirzoyan, Armenia's Foreign Minister, stated, "Armenia is interested in any impartial, objective, neutral mediation, and we highly appreciate all efforts being made based on this motivation," during a press conference with Belgium's Foreign Minister.
According to him, numerous significant meetings are taking place under the mediation of EU President Charles Michel. “I have personally had several meetings with my Azerbaijani counterpart in Washington with the mediation of the American side, the State Department, and Blinken. We are also having meetings in Moscow and elsewhere in all these directions,” he noted.
Mirzoyan emphasized that there is no difference between the platforms and stressed that it is crucial for the Armenian side to work on the agreements reached. “Unfortunately, we have witnessed several cases where an agreement is reached during a meeting, but later, in reality, we do not see that agreement materialize,” he added.
He also pointed out that the leadership of Azerbaijan has not made any public statements regarding the recognition of Armenia's territorial integrity to date. “While we have heard such words during closed meetings, this is extremely concerning for us and can indicate that Azerbaijan has territorial ambitions towards Armenia,” he remarked.
Moreover, Mirzoyan mentioned that besides failing to uphold agreements, the opposite process is occurring. “While we speak of addressing the rights and security of the Nagorno-Karabakh people as part of the resolution, and without that, it is unrealistic to expect long-term and sustainable peace in the South Caucasus, in reality, we see the entire population being besieged through the illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor,” he concluded.
