Weightlifters Banned from Displaying National Flags During Awards Ceremony

The International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) has prohibited the display of national flags during awards ceremonies. This was announced a few days ago by the organization's president, Muhammad Jaloud.

Now, a country's flag will only be shown on screens.

"We are a sport, we represent peace, not the struggle of who is better. In discussions on this topic, we took into consideration what happened in Yerevan. And we do not want athletes, standing on a small podium, to try to cover others' flags with their own; this is unsportsmanlike," he stated.

It is worth noting that the organization reached this decision after the Azerbaijani flag was burned during the opening ceremony of the European Championship tournament held in Yerevan.
