Police Officer Who Knocked Citizen to Ground in Yerevan Has Had Powers Suspended
During the "Yerevan Wine Days" festival on Saryan Street in Yerevan, the powers of a police officer who struck a citizen have been temporarily suspended. The press service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Armenia has released a clarification regarding the incident.
Earlier, a video of the incident had circulated on social media, showing the officer hitting the citizen, after which the latter lost consciousness.
"We inform you regarding the incident between the citizen and the officer that has been shared online: shortly after the altercation between the citizen and the officer during the 'Yerevan Wine Days' festival on Saryan Street, information was received at the internal security department of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. An internal investigation has been initiated, and the officer's powers have been temporarily suspended," the statement reads.
It is worth noting that the "Yerevan Wine Days" festival is taking place from June 2-4, from 16:00 to 22:30. Tumanyan, Moskovyan, and Saryan streets are closed to traffic.
