US Should Impose Sanctions on Azerbaijan, Congressman Comments on Azerbaijani Diversion
The attack by Azerbaijani armed forces, which resulted in the death of three Artsakh police officers, is yet another act of deliberate murder. Washington should use its diplomatic channels to resolve the instability in the region. This statement was made by US Congressman Adam Schiff.
Schiff emphasized that in the aftermath of the killing of Artsakh police officers, there is an even greater need to impose sanctions on Azerbaijan for "their violations of human rights and the right to self-determination of the people of Artsakh." He also reminded that the Lachin corridor remains blocked by Azerbaijan and called for holding Baku accountable.
“This latest violence occurs during a humanitarian crisis caused by the blockade of the Lachin corridor, which has left 120,000 people in dire conditions. The US must condemn Azerbaijan's attacks on Artsakh and hold Aliyev’s regime accountable. I urge the US State Department and the Biden administration to use all diplomatic avenues to address the growing instability in the region,” Schiff wrote on his Facebook page, stressing that the security and sovereignty of Artsakh must be respected.
It is worth recalling that on March 5, Azerbaijani armed diversion groups opened fire on a police vehicle departing for a shift in Artsakh, leading to the deaths of three police officers and injuring another.
