Patrick Karam Comments on Aliyev's Statement: 'What Hypocrisy'
“The dictator of Baku, whose country ranks at the bottom of all possible international ratings in terms of both human rights and corruption, which recklessly kills Armenians in Artsakh, demands that France respect its communities and rights. What hypocrisy!” wrote Patrick Karam, a member of the Regional Council of Île-de-France, commenting on Aliyev's statements that France should respect the rights of its overseas communities and territories, including New Caledonia and other peoples.
“Aliyev is not just hypocritical; he is an individual who considers his entire audience to be an ignorant herd that will accept any absurdity he says. Especially for 'Aliyev's believers', we clarify that New Caledonia is a territorial administrative union of France with a special status, where executive power resides in local self-governing bodies, consisting of 11 representatives from the local parliament.”
The representative noted that New Caledonia has held four referendums on independence, and in all four instances, the residents voted against the independence of this territory from France.
