VIDEO: Macron Clashes with Congolese President
During his tour of African countries, French President Emmanuel Macron clashed with Congolese President Félix Tshisekedi after the latter reminded his French counterpart of France's involvement in the 1994 genocide.
Tshisekedi asked how France planned to assist Congo, to which Macron responded not with a diplomatic answer but by arguing with his partner in front of reporters: "Excuse me, it is not France's fault, I will say it bluntly: since 1994, you have failed to establish sovereignty in your country—neither politically nor military. This is a reality. You shouldn’t look for scapegoats. Such a situation has led to terrible consequences, with thousands of casualties in the second war. I reject the responsibility that can be attributed to France. I stand for the entire truth; I refuse to carry that burden on my shoulders.
France is not obliged to do good for you; that is your problem: to establish law and order and to judge the criminals. Yet they are still here, holding positions of responsibility. How can you hope for trust when justice has not been done? So do not blame France for what depends on you."
