Aronian Defeats Olympic Champion and Becomes Sole Leader
Former leader of the Armenian national team Levon Aronian secured his second victory at the WR Chess Masters tournament in Düsseldorf, Germany.
Competing with white pieces, Aronian faced Uzbek Nodirbek Abdusattorov and clinched the win on the 31st move. Currently, Aronian leads the tournament table with 2.5 points, while Abdusattorov is in second place with 1.5 points.
In the first round, the Armenian grandmaster had defeated Indian Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa, and in the second round, he played to a draw against German Vincent Keymer.
The prize fund for the WR Chess Masters is €130,000, with the winner set to receive €40,000.
