Did Putin Threaten Scholz? The Chancellor Responds to the Question

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated in an interview with the German publication Bild am Sonntag that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not threatened him during their phone conversations. The journalist recalled the words of former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who claimed to have heard threats from the Russian leader.

“No, Putin hasn’t threatened either me or Germany,” Scholz replied, adding that during their phone calls, the “completely different positions” of the politicians on the war in Ukraine were “clarified more than ever.”

“I make it clear to Putin that Russia bears full responsibility for the war. Russia has attacked a neighboring state without any reason, aiming to capture part or all of Ukraine,” the German Chancellor explained.

He emphasized that it is simply impossible to accept this attack, as it “fundamentally violates the European world order.” In response to whether there are agreements with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that the weapons received from the West will only be used within Ukraine, Olaf Scholz commented, “There is consensus on this issue,” according to Deutsche Welle.
