Thanks to Iran, We Have Avoided Further Escalation of Azerbaijani Aggression, Says Deputy Foreign Minister
The Armenian side possesses intelligence data indicating that Azerbaijan was preparing for a larger-scale aggression against Armenia in September 2022. Deputy Foreign Minister Vahan Kostanyan made this statement in an interview with Al-Monitor.
He noted that due to Iran's actions and statements, Armenia was able to avoid the further escalation of Azerbaijani attacks in September 2022. In essence, official Yerevan is acknowledging for the first time, through the Deputy Foreign Minister, Iran's role in preventing last year's large-scale conflict.
According to Kostanyan, Iran is now an important partner for Armenia. He stated, "The border with Iran and Georgia is of paramount importance to the republic; they are Armenia's natural gates to the outside world."
