Moscow Welcomes Progress in Dialogue Between Armenia and Turkey
Moscow welcomes the progress in dialogue between Armenia and Turkey, as this opens up prospects for the restoration of ties between the two countries. This was stated on the website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in response to media inquiries during a press conference summarizing the results of Russian diplomacy in 2022.
On January 6, Armenia’s Foreign Minister spokesperson Vahan Hunanyan announced that the Turkish side had informed Armenia about the lifting of restrictions on direct cargo transportation.
The Russian Foreign Ministry emphasized that it was under Russia's auspices that the process of normalizing relations between Ankara and Yerevan was initiated in January 2022, when representatives of Armenia and Turkey, Ruben Rubinyan and Serdar Kilic, met for the first time in Moscow.
"We maintain close contact with both sides. We welcome the recent progress that opens up prospects for the restoration of Armenian-Turkish ties, which will contribute to the further normalization of the regional situation," the Russian Foreign Ministry’s statement read.
It is noted that Yerevan and Ankara declared in December 2021 that they were ready to take concrete steps toward normalizing relations.
