We Called for the Full Restoration of Free Movement through the Lachin Corridor: Ned Price

“We continue direct discussions with Armenia and Azerbaijan, both in a bilateral format and with partners. We are advancing that process through numerous organizations,” said Ned Price, spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, during a press briefing on January 24.

He stated, “The deteriorating humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh deeply concerns us. The issue has recently been a topic of discussion between Secretary Blinken and the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan. We have insisted that the obstruction of commercial and private transport through the Lachin Corridor has led to shortages of food, fuel, and medicine. The regular disruptions of natural gas and other utilities further exacerbate the worsening humanitarian situation.”

“We have called for the full restoration of free movement through the corridor. We must find a solution to the deadlock that ensures the welfare of the population living in the area. We believe that the way forward is through negotiations. We are committed to lasting peace. We have demonstrated our willingness to work with the parties both in word and deed. The U.S. will continue to do everything possible to promote dialogue and the restoration of free movement through the corridor,” Price added.
