France Will Be Happy to Participate in the EU Mission in Armenia, Says Foreign Minister
French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna addressed the importance of establishing a European Union (EU) civilian mission in Armenia. In a tweet, she stated that France would be pleased to participate in this European mission.
Earlier, the EU Council announced that EU Foreign Ministers have approved the establishment of a civilian mission in Armenia aimed at fostering stability in the South Caucasus, based on a French initiative. The mission will focus on increasing trust in Armenia's border areas and creating conditions for the resolution of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.
The mission's mandate is set for two years. The decision was also commented on by the EU's High Representative Josep Borrell, highlighting that the establishment of the EU mission in Armenia marks a new phase of EU involvement in the South Caucasus. “The EU will continue to support efforts to de-escalate tension and work with both parties towards the ultimate goal of establishing sustainable peace in the region,” the official stated.
