Former Head of Armenia's Military Intelligence Arrested: Details
The former commander of the second army corps and the former head of the military intelligence department, Major General Arayik Harutyunyan, has been arrested. This has been confirmed to Sputnik Armenia by its own sources.
Harutyunyan's arrest is part of a criminal investigation that was reported on December 14. The name of the accused was not disclosed in the announcement at that time.
However, the media outlet has managed to clarify that it indeed concerns Harutyunyan.
In May 2021, during the incursion of Azerbaijani armed forces near the villages of Kut and Verin Shorja in Gegharkunik Province, Harutyunyan was in command of the 2nd Corps, and those directions were within the responsibility zone of the military unit.
After this incident, Harutyunyan was appointed as the head of the intelligence department, but he was later dismissed from that position.
