Iran Will Respond Appropriately if Any Country Performs Operations Outside Its Borders, Iranian Consul

Iran does not recognize any changes to borders in the region. If any country conducts operations outside its borders, Iran will respond appropriately. This was stated by Morteza Abedin Varamin, the Consul General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kapan, while addressing questions regarding Azerbaijani aggression against Armenian territory.

“Senior Iranian officials have clearly and repeatedly asserted that the territorial integrity of countries and internationally recognized borders must be respected,” said the consul. He recalled that the Iranian Foreign Minister also emphasized that the security of Armenia is the security of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

“And we make it very clear that we will not officially recognize any changes to borders. We want a peaceful and stable Armenia. Here, our message is one of peace and friendship. Naturally, we will take into account the interests of both countries. I once again emphasize to the people of Kapan: do not worry, I am in Kapan,” Morteza Abedin Varamin stated.

Iran has consistently declared that it will not allow changes to historical borders in the region. When asked about practical steps in this regard, the consul expressed hope that no country would allow operations outside its borders.

“Otherwise, there will be an appropriate response from the Islamic Republic of Iran,” he noted. As for what kind of response it would be, the consul remarked that it would be proportionate to the action taken.

The official opening ceremony of the Consulate General of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Kapan took place on October 21, attended by the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Iran, who cut the red ribbon.
