Armenia Appoints New Customs Attaché at ‘Upper Lars’

In a decision made during today’s session of the Armenian government, Vahan Hakobyan has been appointed as the customs attaché to the Embassy of Armenia in Russia. The main function of the customs attaché is to take operational steps towards resolving issues related to customs procedures at the ‘Upper Lars’ border crossing, including gathering information on customs processes and the flow of transported goods, and presenting that information to the Armenian State Revenue Committee.

It is noteworthy that Armenia has not had a representative at the ‘Upper Lars’ crossing for several months, which significantly hinders the ability to take prompt actions in resolving emerging problems. Ara Tananian was relieved of his duties as customs attaché at the embassy on June 17, 2022, having been appointed to the position in January 2020.
