Facts Exist About Prisoners Yet to be Confirmed by Azerbaijani Authorities: Zeynalyan
All 17 Armenian servicemen who were captured during the Azerbaijani military offensive in September and subsequently confirmed by Azerbaijani authorities have been repatriated to Armenia. This was stated by Hasmik Samvelyan, spokesperson for the Armenian representative office on international legal issues, in an interview with 24News.
Immediately following the clashes in September, the Armenian side appealed to the European Court of Human Rights for interim measures concerning the captured servicemen. Additionally, a complaint was filed regarding the rights of one deceased Armenian captive and displaced persons.
Samvelyan noted that the confirmed data regarding the 17 captives is consistent with the information held by the International Committee of the Red Cross.
It remains unclear how many servicemen's bodies are present on the Azerbaijani side in the areas of conflict resulting from the September attack, as official Baku has not yet permitted search operations in the territories it controls.
Artak Zeynalyan, representative for Armenian prisoners of war at the European Court, former Minister of Justice of Armenia, and attorney, told 24News that there are facts about prisoners that have not yet been confirmed by Azerbaijani authorities. However, Zeynalyan did not provide a specific number, indicating that the data is still in the process of being compiled.
