US State Department on Establishment of EU Mission at Armenia-Azerbaijan Border
The United States welcomes the establishment of an EU mission at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border and hopes that it will contribute to dialogue between the parties. This was stated by Vedant Patel, Deputy Spokesperson for the U.S. Department of State, during a press briefing on Friday, as reported by TASS.
"We are encouraged by the meeting between the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan and welcome the actions of the President of France and the President of the European Council to promote a comprehensive peace process," he said.
"In particular, we welcome the advancement recorded regarding the EU observation mission in the region. This mission is aimed at building trust between the parties and will continue to assist in the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Patel added.
According to the statement from the European Council, the EU civilian mission at the Armenia-Azerbaijan border is set to begin operations in October and will last for two months.
