The Chief of the General Staff Will Be the First Deputy of the Minister of Defense, Suren Papikyan
The Chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia will be appointed only after structural changes are made within the Ministry of Defense. This was announced today by the Minister of Defense Suren Papikyan during a public broadcast.
“We are going to have a new model where the Chief of the General Staff will be the first deputy of the Minister of Defense,” said Papikyan, presenting the new management model for the army that will soon be implemented through legislative changes.
“The Armed Forces will focus solely on the defense of the country and combat readiness, that is, on the tasks they are supposed to handle. Procurement, maintenance, and support will all be the responsibility of other departments within the Ministry of Defense,” Papikyan stated.
The Minister indicated that the new legislative package has been circulating within the government for an extended period and will soon be presented to the National Assembly.
