Biden Confirms U.S. Stance on Taiwan Remains Unchanged
U.S. President Joe Biden has reiterated that Washington's position on Taiwan has not changed. This was reported by the Kyodo news agency.
During a joint press conference held with Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo, Biden stated that the U.S. is prepared to participate militarily in Taiwan's defense "in the event of an invasion" and any unilateral attempts to alter its status quo.
Later, as reported by NBC, the White House clarified that when Biden spoke about readiness for military involvement in Taiwan's defense, he referred to arms supplies for the island's self-defense.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry has urged the U.S. to exercise caution in its statements and actions regarding Taiwan, emphasizing that Taiwan is an inseparable part of China and that China will "take decisive actions to protect its sovereignty and security interests."
