What Will Happen If the Opposition Resigns Their Mandates? Vladimir Vardanyan Clarifies
If the MPs from the two opposition factions in the National Assembly resign their mandates, nothing will happen. This was stated by Vladimir Vardanyan, the chairman of the Permanent Commission on State and Legal Affairs, during a briefing with reporters, according to Armenpress.
“The normal functioning of the parliament cannot be disrupted due to the behavior of any deputy or minority. This is not the best solution; it is a solution that, in some respects, does not align with democratic developments, but nothing should follow from it. Imagine, for example, a small faction exits the National Assembly, and this leads to the dissolution or disbandment of the parliament. This means we can perpetually have permanent crises that do not conform in any way to the characteristics of a parliamentary governance model,” Vardanyan said.
According to the deputy, the National Assembly hall is a space for dialogue with the opposition. “The halls intended for parliamentary discussions are created to foster dialogue. This is the place where dialogue can unfold,” Vardanyan noted.
