Moldova Has No Alternative to Russian Gas, Says President
Moldova has no alternative to Russian gas, as purchasing blue fuel on the market would be too expensive for the country. This was stated by President Maia Sandu on April 27.
“We cannot give up (Russian) gas in conditions where there is no alternative, and electricity is also dependent on gas; here, too, there is no alternative, as we are practically not connected to Romania. We are in a very difficult situation,” she said during an interview on the “Jurnal” television channel.
Sandu elaborated that starting on May 1, in the conditions of the termination of the contract with the Russian company Gazprom, Moldova will have to purchase gas from the market. At the same time, the offers from potential suppliers are “unsatisfactory, as they are very expensive,” the head of the Republic concluded.
