Iran Deploys Tank Division to Afghan Border
The Iranian authorities have rapidly deployed a tank division to the border with Afghanistan. This was reported on April 26 by the Afghan news agency Aamaj News, according to Armenpress.
It has been confirmed that the 88th Tank Division has been sent to the border. This decision was reportedly made for security reasons due to recent incidents in the border area between Dokarun (Iran) and Islam Qala (Afghanistan).
As of now, there has been no official confirmation or denial from Tehran regarding this information.
On April 23, a confrontation occurred between the border guards at a checkpoint, leading to the temporary closure of the Iranian side of the border crossing. According to the Tasnim News Agency, the Taliban has begun work to open a road near Islam Qala.
The Iranian border guards intervened and halted the operations, as they reportedly did not have official approval to construct a new road in the border area. The IRNA agency reports that work has been suspended at this time, and representatives from both countries are preparing to discuss this issue.
The Dokarun checkpoint is one of the most important trade routes between Iran and Afghanistan, according to TASS.
