Video: In 1996, the idea was proposed that Artsakh has no future within Azerbaijan. Today it can be said that this is not correct. Vigen Khachatryan
Vigen Khachatryan, a member of the National Assembly from the "Civil Contract" faction, recalled today that in 1996, a concept was introduced by Levon Ter-Petrosyan, which is unacceptable for us: the violent dominance of one people over another.
“Essentially, the idea was put forward that Artsakh has no future within Azerbaijan. Years have passed and today it can be said that this too has not been correct. Back then, we knew that during the Soviet Union, there was a question raised about transferring Artsakh to Armenia. That was a different issue, and we did not draw conclusions from the events in Sumgait, and did not delve into the cases in Baku and Kirovabad, and later we did not analyze how it was that 24 villages were depopulated,” stated the deputy from the Civil Contract.
He emphasized the need to understand what the goal is: whether to heroically perish, or to live, develop, and have a perspective. According to the MP, there should be more dedication to the ideas for which the people staged the revolution.
He mentioned that he has decided to stop speaking about the opposition. “If some girl comes and shows underwear here, it does not mean that I should respond to her uncivilized behavior,” Khachatryan said.
According to him, many people are satisfied with the results of the revolution, but more people are still dissatisfied. “We need to have a separate internal discussion on what we should do to ensure the implementation of the peace treaty, and we need to commit more to the ideas for which the people took to the streets and made a revolution. We need to explain to people that we are not abandoning Artsakh; we want to ensure the exclusion of the depopulation of Artsakh,” he noted.
NA Speaker Alen Simonyan thanked Vigen Khachatryan for his “right words.”
