Cavusoglu States Under What Conditions Turkey Will Join Sanctions Against Russia
Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced today that Ankara would join sanctions imposed on Russia if they receive approval from the United Nations. Cavusoglu made this statement in an interview with NTV Turkish television, as reported by Turkish news outlets.
“Turkey adheres to international law and conducts a balanced policy. If the UN approves these sanctions, Turkey will be obliged to join them,” said the Turkish minister.
He also emphasized the need for reforms in the UN. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has also addressed this topic.
Cavusoglu noted that Turkey sees signs of a cold war in today’s developments. “We assume that the consequences of the war between Ukraine and Russia will be felt for a long time, and recovery will take a considerable amount of time. We see signs of a cold war, but we will continue to conduct principled foreign policy,” the head of Turkey's foreign ministry stated.
