Austria Opposes Embargo on Russian Gas
The Chancellor of Austria, Karl Nehammer, has expressed his opposition to an embargo on gas and oil supplies from Russia. He made this statement in an interview with the Kronen Zeitung newspaper.
“Sanctions only make sense if they weaken those to whom they are imposed, rather than those who impose them,” he said.
According to the Chancellor, securing the supply of energy resources is his priority, but he also spoke about the need to reduce dependence on Russian gas. “Let’s judge not by declarations, but by facts. The Austrian oil company has not yet received any notification, and the company has long-term contracts in euros until 2040,” he stated.
