Lavrov and Bayramov Talk: Russian Foreign Ministry Reports
The Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov discussed the signing of a peace treaty between Baku and Yerevan during telephone conversations with the foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan.
According to the official website of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, on March 21, Lavrov had a phone call with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov. A wide range of issues concerning bilateral relations were discussed, including the progress in the implementation of the provisions of the declaration on allied cooperation signed by the Presidents of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Azerbaijan on February 22 of this year.
Regional and international issues were also discussed. The ministers reviewed the implementation of key provisions of the trilateral agreements reached on November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26, as well as the issue of signing a peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
A “clarification of positions” was conducted regarding the further work of the “3+3” consultative regional platform (Azerbaijan - Armenia - Georgia + Russia - Iran - Turkey).
On March 21, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a telephone conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov. This was reported by the Armenian Foreign Ministry.
Topics discussed included Armenian-Russian cooperation, mutual visits at high and highest levels, and events dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Russia.
Mirzoyan and Lavrov also addressed the progress in the implementation of agreements reached by the trilateral statements of November 9, 2020, January 11, 2021, and November 26, 2021.
The Armenian Foreign Minister presented the situation caused by provocations and violations of the ceasefire regime by Azerbaijan in the border zone between Armenia and Azerbaijan and in Nagorno-Karabakh.
Mirzoyan also conveyed the Armenian side’s position on starting negotiations on a peace treaty between Armenia and Azerbaijan, emphasizing the role of the OSCE Minsk Group in this context.
During the phone conversation, the process of normalizing Armenia-Turkey relations was also addressed.
Exchanges of views on issues related to regional and international security took place.
