Ukraine's Mines in the Black Sea Could Reach the Bosphorus and the Mediterranean Sea
The mines placed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces in the coastal areas of the Black Sea could reach as far as the Bosphorus Strait and the Mediterranean Sea. This statement was made by the Federal Security Service of Russia.
The Russian side has not ruled out that mines detached from the seabed could be carried by water currents to the Bosphorus and from there to other seas in the Mediterranean basin.
According to Russian sources, the Ukrainian Navy has deployed around 420 mines in the maritime approaches of the ports of Odesa, Ochakiv, Chernomorsk, and Yuzhny since the beginning of the Russian special operation.
“Taking into account that southern surface currents dominate in the areas of the listed Ukrainian ports, the possibility of mines flowing towards the Bosphorus and subsequently to the seas of the Mediterranean basin cannot be ruled out,” the FSB's message states.
