Is Armenia Preparing to Present Territorial Claims to Azerbaijan? — Taguhi Tovmasyan
The Chairwoman of the National Assembly's Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public Affairs, Taguhi Tovmasyan, made a Facebook post stating:
“According to the statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia, Armenia has responded to the proposals submitted by Azerbaijan and has appealed to the Co-Chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group to organize negotiations for the signing of a peace treaty. There is already information regarding the five main principles presented by Baku to Armenia for negotiations.
Of course, steps towards establishing peace are generally welcome; however, the Government of Armenia should clarify the following questions to the people, to whom power belongs:
- How does the Government of Armenia envision the implementation of the principle of sovereignty, territorial integrity, inviolability of borders, and mutual political independence recognition— with or without Artsakh, and based on what borders?
- What is expected for the Russian peacekeeping mission in the Republic of Artsakh if mutual recognition of territorial integrity is established?
- What fate awaits border residents and enclaves in general (including the Tavush region), which have been frequently discussed recently?
- Is Armenia preparing to present territorial claims to Azerbaijan based primarily on the fact that Azerbaijan seized several regions of the Republic of Artsakh following its military aggression against Artsakh in 2020?
- Based on what documents and what maps is the demarcation and delimitation of borders expected to be carried out?
- Does the opening of communication routes imply that any road within Armenia’s borders will be controlled by forces that do not belong to Armenia?”
