Fines and Imprisonment: 'Fake' News about the Military Criminalized in Russia
Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law that criminalizes the dissemination of false information about the Russian Armed Forces and calls for anti-Russian sanctions. This was reported by РИА Новости.
Today, the Federation Council of the Russian Federation approved the law on criminal penalties for spreading false information about the Russian military during a plenary session.
The corresponding document stipulates penalties ranging from fines of 700,000 to 1.5 million rubles or up to three years of imprisonment for deliberately disseminating false information about the Armed Forces of Russia.
Additionally, if the violation is committed using an official position, by a group of individuals, or through the artificial fabrication of evidence for charges, the penalty will range from 5 to 10 years of imprisonment.
