Garibashvili Signs Application for EU Membership
The Prime Minister of Georgia, Irakli Garibashvili, announced in a special address to citizens on Thursday that he has signed the application for the country's membership in the European Union. Georgia had planned to submit this application in 2024, but due to recent developments in Ukraine, the Georgian authorities have decided to accelerate the EU integration process, as reported by sputnik-georgia.ru.
“Today is a historic day for Georgia; I am signing the application for EU membership on behalf of the country,” said the Prime Minister, after signing the document.
A few days ago, Ukraine submitted its own application for EU membership. On Tuesday, the European Parliament overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling for Ukraine to be granted candidate status for EU membership.
