Which Countries Are Closing Their Airspace to Russian Aircraft: Updated
Germany is closing its airspace to Russian aircraft starting from 17:00 Moscow time. This was announced by the German Transport Ministry, according to TASS.
As reported by TASS, Iceland's Foreign Minister Þórdís Kolbrún Gylfa dóttir announced on her Twitter account that Iceland will close its airspace to Russian aircraft. “Iceland has decided to close its airspace to Russian air traffic in solidarity with Ukraine,” she wrote.
Sweden's Minister for EU Affairs Hans Dahlgren stated in an interview with Swedish radio on Sunday that Sweden will also close its airspace to Russian aircraft. “Sweden is preparing to close its airspace to Russian aircraft,” he said, adding, “The most effective measure will be a joint decision by EU countries. Sweden will now advocate for the suspension of Russian flights within the EU.”
Denmark will close its airspace to Russian aircraft. This was announced by Denmark's Foreign Minister Jeppe Kofod on Twitter, noting that Copenhagen will demand a Europe-wide closure of airspace to Russia.
Austria's Minister for Climate Protection, Environment, Energy, Transport, Innovation, and Technology Leonore Gewessler announced on Twitter that Austria will close its airspace to all Russian aircraft.
The Belgian authorities have also decided to close the country’s airspace to Russian airlines due to Russia's military actions in Ukraine. This was announced on Sunday by the Kingdom's Prime Minister Alexander De Croo. “Belgium has decided to close its airspace to all Russian airlines,” he stated on his Twitter account.
Previously, similar decisions were made by Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Slovenia, Romania, Bulgaria, Poland, the Czech Republic, and the United Kingdom.
