Five UN Employees Abducted in Yemen

Five employees of one of the UN humanitarian organizations were abducted on the morning of February 12. Among them are four Yemenis and one foreign national. This was reported on February 13 to Yemen News by Russell Gik, the humanitarian coordinator in Yemen and senior public relations advisor.

"The UN employees were returning after completing a field mission in Aden. The United Nations is in close contact with the authorities to secure their release," he said.

According to preliminary reports, unidentified militants, presumably members of the Al-Qaeda group based in Yemen, are responsible for the abduction. Militants often take hostages to exchange them for prisoners or money.
