Will Azerbaijan Join the EAEU? Zakharova Comments
The cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) will contribute to the activation of mutual trade and the implementation of large infrastructure projects.
This was stated by Maria Zakharova, the official representative of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, during a briefing on Wednesday. She was commenting on the proposal made by the first President of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Nazarbayev, regarding Azerbaijan potentially becoming an observer in the EAEU.
"It seems that the development of dialogue between Azerbaijan and the EAEU in any format will contribute to the activation of mutual trade, the unblocking of transportation arteries in the region, and the implementation of large-scale regional and not only regional infrastructure projects. At the same time, it is important and necessary to consider that the decision to raise the level of cooperation within the union is made with the consent of all member countries and the interested party, based on the results of a comprehensive expert study of the potential economic consequences of such a step," she said.
On December 10, the honorary chairman of the Eurasian Economic Council (EEC), Nursultan Nazarbayev, stated that Azerbaijan could become an observer state in the Eurasian Economic Union.
