Turkish President's Statement on Armenia
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has addressed the issue of normalizing relations with Armenia. According to "Armenpress," as reported by the "RIA Novosti" agency, the Turkish president, in a conversation with journalists, reacted to Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's statement about the positive signals from Turkey regarding peace in the region, stating that Turkey is ready to gradually normalize relations with Armenia.
Erdoğan emphasized the need for a constructive approach in the region. "Even if there are disagreements, relations with neighbors should be developed based on respect for territorial integrity and sovereignty. We can gradually normalize relations with Armenia, whose new government has declared its willingness to move in that direction," Erdoğan said.
According to the Turkish president, addressing economic development and creating conditions for cooperation are only possible after ensuring stable peace. Erdoğan also referred to the so-called "Platform of Six," which could involve Turkey, Azerbaijan, Russia, Iran, Armenia, and Georgia. He stated that if the organization of such a platform becomes possible, it would lead to much calmer conditions in the region.
He added that it is necessary to build railway and road connections in the region, which would link the countries and thus overcome many issues. On August 27, during a session of the Armenian government, Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan stated that there are certain positive signals from Turkey concerning regional peace. "We will evaluate these signals and respond to positive signals with positive actions," the Armenian Prime Minister said.
