Armenia Instead of Azerbaijan: Indian Ambassador Makes Significant Statement in Iran
Iranian expert Vardan Voskanyan reports: "According to one of the Iranian media outlets, India, through its ambassador in Iran, has announced its intention to include Armenia in the North-South transport corridor that will be established through the Iranian Chabahar port, connecting Eurasia and Scandinavia with the Indian Ocean.
To give you a better understanding, the Chabahar port is the only area in Iran that is not subjected to some of the American sanctions, as it is also used for supplying Afghanistan, which aligns with Washington's interests. Moreover, India is making significant investments in this port to potentially exclude the rival Gwadar port in Pakistan, located about 70 km away from Chabahar, and to isolate Islamabad by cutting the Pakistani route that connects Afghanistan and Central Asia to the Indian Ocean.
If the Iranian media has accurately conveyed the Indian ambassador's words, this indicates a serious shift in New Delhi's approach. The aforementioned corridor was initially planned to pass through Azerbaijani territory, but now it specifically emphasizes Armenia.
What could have caused such a sharp turnaround? The most apparent answer lies in the Azerbaijan-Pakistan relations, which, especially in recent times under Turkish 'patronage', have taken on almost an allied nature. Thus, India seems to be guided by the principle of 'the enemy of my enemy is at least not my friend,' trying to channel its focus towards Armenia in this context.
Attached, you can see the map of the North-South transport corridor where Azerbaijan is still indicated."
