Protests Against Price Hikes for Essential Goods in Beirut

There is once again a tense situation in the capital of Lebanon. Several central streets in Beirut have been blocked by citizens protesting against the rising costs of essential goods, reports TASS.

Demonstrators have closed the roads leading to Beirut's Rafik Hariri International Airport with burning tires and garbage bins.

The rise in prices of food, gasoline, and other essential consumer goods is attributed to the sharp devaluation of the Lebanese national currency. The socio-economic and political crisis in Lebanon continues to deepen, worsened by the powerful explosion that rocked Beirut last summer.

The distribution of ministerial portfolios in the government led by Saad Hariri, based on ethnic ratios, has not yet been completed. It is expected that the release of an 11 billion dollar loan from the International Monetary Fund will only be possible after this distribution is finalized.
